Esalen Massage

Sessions last 90 minutes and cost $125.00
Dual Esalen sessions last 60 minutes and cost $160.00

What makes an Esalen Massage so unique is the long connecting strokes. The body is worked as a whole, not in segments. Not only is a physical connection made, but an energetic connection between therapist and client and often a spiritual connection between a client and themselves.

Using intuition and creativity, this soothing bodywork emphasizes nurturing and empathy, creating deeper states of relaxation. The continuous flow of this massage will enhance intuition, magnify the senses and communicate with your entire being. Feel the stress melt away as the healing mechanisms of the body begin to dominate, helping you to find inner peace and harmony.

Advanced Esalen consists of more movement on the table. Mobilizations and stretches are used, sometimes rolling the client on to their side or moving the client into comfortable positions to increase relaxation and support. The therapist will often incorporate other modalities into the work, such as the Trager approach, deep tissue, Cranial Sacral, and Reflexology, while working the whole body. “Dual Esalen” is when two therapists are working on one client. A deep connection is made between therapists as they tune into the recipient.

Esalen Massage was developed by the Esalen Institute named after an extinct tribe of Indians that existed along the cliffs of the Big Sur area in California. The intention of the Esalen Institute is one of self-exploration, both spiritual and psychological. All the classes are designed to gain a consciousness and true understanding of one’s own body, mind, and soul.

What to expect during a session?A very important aspect of an Esalen massage is the setting and atmosphere. The therapist utilizes music, lighting, and aromas to create a “soft environment”. Room temperature is set at a minimum of 80 degrees, and there are no distractions. Often this massage is done with minimal draping, always with the consideration of the comfort level between client and therapist.
