Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscle, generally in the direction of blood flow toward the heart because there is an emphasis on improving blood flow to the soft tissue and sometimes combined with active and passive movement of the joints. It is used to promote general relaxation, improve circulation and range of motion, and relieve muscle tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

This is a more penetrating form of bodywork that goes deep into the layers of muscle and connective tissue where chronic pain, aches, and fatigue are trapped. Each layer of muscle must be relaxed in order to reach the deeper layer. When the muscles are properly relaxed, a client often will not perceive the work as feeling deep. By helping to remove accumulated lactic acid and other waste products from the muscles, deep tissue massage works to detoxify tissue. Lactic acid is a natural chemical byproduct of muscular contractions. An accumulation of lactic acid deep within a muscle causes soreness and stiffness if it is not removed.

Deep Tissue Massage usually concentrates on “clearing out” a specific area of the body such as feet, legs, back, arms, neck or shoulders rather than being a full body type of massage such as Swedish massage.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or Lymphatic Drainage is gentle, noninvasive, rhythmical European massage technique designed to accelerate the movement of lymph in the body. The technique was developed in France during the 1930s by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid through clinical experience, while working on the French Riviera as masseurs, the Danish couple noticed that their English clients suffered from chronic colds, sinusitis and similar respiratory problems.

Esalen Massage

What makes an Esalen Massage so unique is the long connecting strokes. The body is worked as a whole, not in segments. Not only is a physical connection made, but an energetic connection between therapist and client and often a spiritual connection between a client and themselves.

Using intuition and creativity, this soothing bodywork emphasizes nurturing and empathy, creating deeper states of relaxation. The continuous flow of this massage will enhance intuition, magnify the senses and communicate with your entire being. Feel the stress melt away as the healing mechanisms of the body begin to dominate, helping you to find inner peace and harmony.

Prenatal Massage

The overall goals for pregnancy massage are to help minimize stress, promote relaxation and prepare the muscles for childbirth. In addition, there are specific techniques and movements which are designed to help relieve particular conditions, such as low back pain, swelling of hands and feet, headaches, calf cramps, insomnia, sciatic pain and sinus congestion.

The massage involves manipulation of the soft tissues and is the physical movement, stroking and stretching of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissue. One major physiological effects of this manipulation is an increase of blood circulation to the muscles being massaged. This results in more oxygen and nutrients available to these tissues, which blood is designed to transport. In addition, enhanced blood flow will remove metabolic waste products that have built up in the muscles. Some other major physiological effects of soft tissue manipulation include improving muscle pliability and joint flexibility, decreased muscle tension and calming nervous irritability.

Hot Stone Massage

“Hot Rock” capitalizes on these traditional practices with a current approach. Basalt and marble stones are the medium and the hot and cold temperatures are the massage. By producing alternatively sedative and re-energizing responses to the body, this therapy will assist the body in self-healing. Hot Stone Massage goes beyond the physical experience of a typical massage, and enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well-being, creating a positive approach to “Body-Mind-Spirit” philosophy. Hot Stone massage, also known as Hot Rock massage, is an ancient idea for our modern age.

This type of therapy utilizes river-bed smooth basalt rocks that are heated and/or cooled then applied to the body. Each stone has a specific role in the massage session. Some are used more for trigger point therapy and others focus on balancing your energy.

Raindrop Technique

This innovative technique originated from the research of D. Gary Young N.D. and a Lakota medicine man almost two decades ago. It combines Vita Flex (similar to reflexology) and specific massage techniques with therapeutic-grade essential oils to bring the body into structural and electrical alignment. The oils are dispensed from a height of about six inches and gently massaged alongside the spine. Although the entire process takes about 60 minutes to complete, the oils will continue working in the body for 5-7 days.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils stimulate your body’s natural healing response. Because they are multi-faceted and complex, they connect with your body’s innate intelligence. Their holistic action encourages your body to heal not only on the physical level, but the mental, emotional, and spiritual levels as well.
